Christophe Blain is, perhaps, the best and more influential european cartoonist of our days. I can't think of another contemporary cartoonist working comic ellipsis as well as Blain. He borders on perfection in Gus series (nothing like the first story of volume one to date). Besides, he's a terrific artist.
Some time ago, Wim Lockefeer, well-known by his blog The Ephemerist, brought to us this four page story by Blain paying a homage to Peellaert, who recently passed away, from Forbidden Planet site (where you can read a translation into english). When I found out them searching the Net I just could to say-- WOW! Usually I'm only upload a reference image and link the original source of what I've seen. But, in this case, I couldn't resist to show you everything here due to its eye-catching outcome. I hope Wim will find a way to pardon me for taking the liberty.
Anyway, thanks so much mista'!

How about this for a far-out-yet-unlikely creative team for a Batman story?

Wow! Thanks Gabriel! I have been a big fan of Blain since I "discovered" him earlier this year with "Gus and his Gang" (US title) Since then I've picked up "Isaac the Pirate" 1 and 2 and his 2 volumes of "Dungeon:the Early Years" and "The Speed Abater". I really can't wait for more Gus and Isaac volumes. I love his style...I see similarities to Gilbert Shelton and Aragones and even Monkeypunch, all artists I admire. And the Blain-imitating-Trondheim artwork in the Dungeon books is fantastic.
Glad knowing you like Blain, Doug!
I "discovered" him with Isaac The Pirate. The Public Library of my neighborhood has all 5 albums. But when I read Gus... Well, I fell down arse first :) This series is just gasping! It's got as far as album 3 called "Ernest" here, in Europe (as good as the first one).
Two days ago, I was talking with a cartoonist friend of mine about him. We both agreed one of the best pleasures for the reader is that you realize he doesn't suffer drawing his comics. He just has plenty of talent, indeed.
Shelton and Aragones! I've never thought about Blain this way! But now that you mention it, I can see a real connection among all them. I don't know Monkeypunch! He has confessed often a huge Gus Bofa influence though (and Crumb, Herge and Morris).
Mykal: Don't hesitate! Go to the first Comic Store and get Gus series right away! It's worth it!
Gabriel: Check out this article on Blain's colorists...very informative and truly a highlight of his work in general:

In the USA I believe the single volume "Gus and his Gang" collects all three volumes released in Europe. I hope he doesn't take too long to make another three!
Oh, and Monkeypunch is the Japanese cartoonist who created the original "Lupin III" manga. His early work is not generic manga, it looks to have some Aragones and Mort Drucker mixed in!
Lupin! I get it! I remember seeing this series on TV a lot of years ago--
I've never seen the original manga though.
Thanks so much for the link! Very instructive and useful.
Looks like everyone bows down before the color work of this series :)
C.Blain must hate G.Peellaert to do that ?!! (Only colours are good)
"Hommage" in french, will say "Homage" in English ...
... not massacre (slaughter) or saccage (havoc) ...
Fortunately died, Peellaert will not see "the thing" !
